PETA Scores Yet Another Media Coup

Ah, PETA. Whenever I start to run low on recent events to write about, you guys always come through with yet another attention-grabbing stunt. This time, they’ve released a new informational program that among other things compares the sufferings of animals today to that of slaves in the antebellum South. Predictably, ultra-PC organizations like Tolerance.org have taken the bait, decrying PETA’s campaign and giving them the media attention they crave. The reframe of the PETA’s critics seems to be that it is offensive to portray the suffering of animals as being equal to the suffering of humans. Perhaps it is offensive, but it may achieve PETA’s purpose: Reminding people that animals indisputably feel pain and fear, a fact most meat-eaters would rather not think about.
